Internships in Madrid

  Spain
  • Madrid:
  • Madrid

Term: Fall, Spring
Dates: Fall/Spring

Description: A semester-long study program that combines eight-credit internships with coursework carrying an additional eight credit hours. The internships are supported by related coursework throughout the semester and provide a solid work experience. Students get a window on the world of work, a sample of life as a team player, and an unforgettable opportunity to explore what it's like to live and work in a foreign country.

Highlights: Politics Internships

Politics interns may work as research and administrative assistants in various political offices, including political party headquarters and international agencies. Student interns have the opportunity to experience the workings of the Spanish political system at very close hand. To use this opportunity to its fullest, interns must be flexible and able to work without a great deal of detailed instructions or direct supervision. Past interns have worked on projects ranging from race relations to public health in Angola to the European Union. Places are also available for interns in refugee offices. Some background in political science would be helpful, but interns do not need to be Political Science majors. Students with good Spanish skills, majoring in all fields who are curious about politics, are encouraged to apply. Students work three days a week, and take two courses associated with the internship.

Business Internships

There is an enormous variety of business internships to choose from. Madrid business interns have been placed in retail stores, the computer industry, a record company, and travel agencies. There have also been media placements in television stations and press agencies.

Art Museum Internships

Museum internships in Madrid are mainly suitable for fine arts or art history majors interested in museum work. Placements are selected to correspond to the interests of the individual students as well as the needs of the museum.

Degree Level: Bachelors Degree (Undergraduate)

Qualifications: Madrid internships require a high degree of proficiency in the Spanish language, both spoken and written. Preference is also given to applicants who have taken at least one course in conversational Spanish. American university students whose native language is Spanish are encouraged to apply, and must supply evidence of being able to write effectively in Spanish, if they have not taken any Spanish coursework in college. Students who have a detailed knowledge or particular interest in a specific field should note this in a cover letter to the application. 3.0 grade point average is highly recommended.
