  Ghana
  • Accra:
  • Accra

Term: Throughout the year
Dates: Ongoing

Description: Recently visited by US President Obama (07-2009), Ghana has been heralded as as a shining example of sub-Saharan African democracy and development. It is a culturally vibrant country with much to offer. However there are still many millions living below the poverty line, and the country is greatly dependent upon international aid.

This project is aimed to give you an inside experience at the working of a grassroots Non-Government Organisation (NGO). You will observe and participate in the daily tasks gaining valuable insight and experience for furthering your career in the development sector.

This project involves working in a city recycling program closely involving the local community. The NGO in question collects discarded plastic drinks sachets that litter the environment, and after cleaning and sterilizing them they stitch them into bags that are exported to other countries as well as sold locally.
