Interns will assist youth within the Arusha municipality by advising and teaching them entrepreneurial skills. You will support young want-to-be entrepreneurs by teaching them how to identify opportunites and think like an entrepreneur. Your business skills in any area will be helpful from basic Marketing, Accounting and Finance to Operations and Human Resources. This is a wonderful learning opportunity for those interested in Social Entrepreneurship. You will get a chance to understand the business opportunities and challenges through the eyes of Arusha's next generation. Who knows...this experience may spark ideas for your own social venture! Tanzania has unparalleled wildlife, abundant natural resources, and has one of the highest levels of biodiversity on mainland Africa. With spectacular landscapes, Tanzania encompasses the continent's highest point--Mt. Kilimanjaro--and its deepest lake, Lake Tanganyika. Scientists and travelers from around the world come to Tanzania to study and marvel at the teeming wildlife. Tanzanian people have immense pride in their country's history and harmony between its different ethnic groups. Deep respect for elders, compassion for the ill and prolonged greetings are only a few characteristics of the culture of Tanzania. These characteristics -- along with a strong work ethic, peace-keeping attitude, a genuine joy of life, and a desire to learn are part of what one experiences when working with people in Tanzania.
Highlights:
You'll be based just outside the beautiful city of Arusha, in northern Tanzania. Arusha is on the southern slopes of towering Mount Meru, its elevation of 4,500 feet keeps temperatures cool and humidity low. Our staff will pick you up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to our home-base. The first week will include an in-depth orientation covering local business etiquette, health and safety, cultural norms, and even a crash course in Swahili to make you proficient in the basic greetings. After a week of intensive orientation, you will work full-time at your internship for the next six weeks. Arusha is also the jumping off point for most wildlife safaris and is only a couple of hours away from Mount Kilimanjaro. There's no shortage of amazing places to visit on the weekends.
