The Perpignan Project is a four-week multimedia study-abroad program co-sponsored by San Francisco State University and ieiMedia. Students study French language and culture, as well as reporting, blogging and multimedia storytelling for the first week and then focus intensively on video shooting and editing in Final Cut Express for the last three weeks. Working with interpreters, students will each produce at least one short, documentary-style video as well as text stories about the community; together they will create an multimedia Web site about the city. Perpignan lies in the Languedoc region of southwestern France, 8 miles west of the Mediterranean and 19 miles north of the Spanish border, within sight of the Pyrénées. The city features a charming, pedestrian-friendly historic quarter; a daily market; and lively night life. Many attractions in France and Spain are only a short train ride away. Those who want to tour extensively should plan travel time before or after the program.

Qualifications:
The program is open to college students and recent graduates. Instruction is primarily in English, although participants also study French. Students must have completed their freshman year of college. All majors are welcome, although preference is given to journalism and communication majors or those with experience working on a student or professional publication.

Institute for Education in International Media's Mission Statement: ieiMedia provides students with unique immersion opportunities in international communication, allowing them to get a taste of what it's like to be a foreign correspondent. Students are taught a variety of media skills (reporting, video, photography, Web design, etc.) and then they report on the community where they are living. Students in each program produce a multimedia Web site about the town.
