While college degrees and some working experience in related subjects areas can help in some projects. GCE also considers volunteer experiences that align with the skills we are seeking. Education and Youth Development Education projects make up Global Cultural Exchange largest program area; volunteers play an important role in creating links among schools, parents, and communities by working as a resource teacher. Teacher trainers in English, math and science during a placement in a project. Volunteers in the youth development sector, this could either be after school programs or programs for out-of-school youth, they develop and facilitate nonformal education in areas such as life skills health and HIV/AIDS prevention, academic tutoring, and English. They also act as catalysts, helping youth initiate community development or income-generation projects. Health Volunteers who specialize in health sector will work within their communities to promote important topics such as nutrition, maternal health, child health, basic hygiene, and water sanitation. They raise communities' awareness or relevant topics by training community health workers and educating families in these areas. HIV/AIDS Volunteers in the HIV/AIDS education and prevention sector train the people living with virus as peer educators, collaborate with other societies in the country to develop appropriate education strategies, provide support to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, and develop programs that provide emotional and financial support to families and people affected by the diseases. Environment/sanitation In developing countries, environmental problems are magnified by communities' direct dependence on their local environment for drinking water, fuel wood, or land and the Gambia is not left out in this environmental disaster. Volunteers can help lead grassroots efforts to protect the environment in their communities and strengthen understanding of environmental issues, they teach environmental awareness in elementary and primary schools and youth groups and community organisations.they also address environmental degradation by helping to plant trees at schools and by promoting sustainable use of natural resources in protected areas. Business Development Business development focus on increasing family income, improving the environment for businesses, educating women entrepreneurs and helping businesses find markets for traditional or value-added products business volunteers often work with women skill centers teaching them basic business skills and also work in professional settings to help them improve their business out reached in to the international markets. Information technology Volunteers provide technical training and support to groups and organizations that want to make better use of information and communications technology. They introduce people to the computer as a tool to increase efficiency and build alliances, helping accelerate the pace of a country's development. Volunteers teach basic computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, use of the internet, and web page development, and they help communities/projects take advantage of technology like e-commerce, distance learning, and geographic information system.
