Obtain Private Pilot's License in Gorgeous South Africa with Travellers Worldwide!

  South Africa
  • Other Cities in South Africa:
  • Rural Areas

Term: Throughout the year
Dates: Available all year round. Courses start at the beginning of each month. Our placements are very flexible, you can choose your own start and finish dates.

Description: Up, up and Awaaaaay! Learn to fly and gain your private pilot's license in the beautiful Garden Route of South Africa with mountains on one side and the ocean on the other... and blue skies above and golden sands below. This is an outstanding opportunity to gain your pilot's licence while in an excitingly different culture. Gain extensive knoledge from local qualified flight instructors and plenty of in-flight experience. Truly this is an awesome and unique opportunity to travel abroad and gain a lifelong skill that has no international bounds!!

PROJECT/COURSE OVERVIEW:
To obtain your Private Pilots Licence you'll do a minimum of 40 hours of flight training. 25 hours will be with an instructor and 15 hours will be solo (flying alone). Of these, three hours will be solo cross-country flight time... sound exciting?

The Private Pilots Licence usually takes four to six weeks to complete, but may possibly take a little longer in the winter owing the weather conditions. 40 hours is the minimum requirement (25 hours dual*, 15 hours solo), to obtain your PPL. This is subject to instructor recommendations. The Academy states that when they sign you out, they won't compromise and will ensure your safety. Having said that, 90% of students finish within this time frame. (* Dual instruction means flying under instruction with an instructor.)

REQUIREMENTS:
You need to be literate in the English Language and be able to understand basic and advanced mathematics. The three basic requirements for becoming a good pilot are common sense, good coordination and a willingness to stay within the boundaries of both flight regulations and personal piloting ability.

Once you have a valid Private Pilots Licence, you will be able to fly, within limits of any ratings held as pilot-in-command (PIC), of an aircraft endorsed on your licence and carry passengers, but not for hire or reward.

The South African licence is recognized worldwide. However, you will need to convert it to your home country's requirements. For example, for UK students, the licence would need to be converted to a UK licence with the UK authority, but we have been advised that this is easy to do.

COST BENEFITS
This course is an absolute bargain! Taking this course in South Africa, you save approximately 3,000 USD compared to the same qualification in, for example, the USA. This saving applies including...
--> the cost of your international flights to South Africa
--> up to 10 extra lessons on your return to the UK (if you wish to convert your qualification to a UK one)-----> you get to spend time exploring South Africa, all your food and accommodation included. No strings attached

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO WHILE ON THIS PROJECT:
Add to your travel experience in Africa by doing some additional exciting activities, such as:
--> 7-day Safari from Cape Town up the renowned Garden Route, taking in Dolphin and Whale Spotting, visits to many tourist attractions, such as a visit to a brewery(!), the Bloukrantz Bungy Jump (reportedly the highest in the world), and a guided tour of the Cango Caves
--> Surfing Courses: In the buzz city of Durban.
--> Paragliding Course: Soar over the impressively beautiful Drakensburg Mountain. You'll get a licence at the end of the course which qualifies you to do solo paragliding around the world.
--> 5-Day Bush Survival Course: This is a fantastic experience and opportunity to see lots of wild animals in their native habitats in Game Reserves. You'll learn a lot and you'll really enjoy learning some bush skills in the great outdoors!

Travellers' placements are very flexible and you can combine this project with any other Travellers project, either in the same country or in different countries.
