An acceptance to the program guarantees a placement for a paid or unpaid professional internship, depending on the terms and conditions of our acceptance. Please review the phone interview report before making the final registration and payment to WISH. * Unpaid Professional Internship We can arrange professional internship in areas other than Medical service and Hospital. As stated minimum internship commitment is for 12 weeks and number of reports will be provided for follow up during your placement. Candidates will need to understand that companies accepting interns put in time and company resources to get you going in the beginning and throughout your internship. Although internship is unpaid and feel like company is getting every benefits and you are not it isn't entirely true. Biggest cost of any company in North America or your home country is staff hiring and training. It is an investment that both intern and the company is making to exchanges certain values being offered and this is why Canada Immigration consider even unpaid professional internship as "work" and "employment" in Canada. After 12 weeks of internship which started off as unpaid, it is possible based on your performance that company may change terms and conditions of your internship to hourly or weekly stipend. This is never promised in the beginning and asking for assurance will only make the company feel pressured and uncomfortable. University students and recent graduates are suitable for unpaid professional internship. Also ask us about part time work off campus. * Professional Internship Stipend based Even though current economy in Canada and around the world is very tight, companies are still hiring but competition is strong and openings are not available as much as last year. There are a lot more qualified candidates available in Canada expecting less pay than last year (Updated 2009). WISH is making careful screening and candidate selection for Professional internship stipend based and it will be limited numbers which we offer. Opportunity for this type of internship will be given to candidates with high advance or fluent level of English, 2nd language that may be valuable in Canadian business trend, strong basic office administration skills and had a lot of international business exposures from other countries including candidates home country. Candidates can expect USD80 to USD350 a week although some cases we have seen as high as USD15 to USD17 hour. We do not recommend that you expect and make financial plan according to the high end of rare end of remuneration as economy is not likely to support your plan if you set it based on the high end.
Highlights:
Internship in Canada is always delivered and combined with Academic programs offered through public or private language, career related programs. Canada Immigration considers internship as "working in Canada" and you will need work permit which allows you to do internship or work experience programs. Unless you are citizen of short listed countries with internship or practicum visa arrangements with Canadian government, you will need to take language study, Business English or career related courses before you begin internship.
Qualifications:
Three key factors that we try to evaluate during our phone interview and applications: * Education and English - At least 2 year college completed or attending University program in your country - Must have advanced level of English, enough to follow UIM and able to express ones professional goals and career plan during the phone interview. No Official English exam result is required. * Computer skills - Computer skills Familiar with Microsoft office products (Word, PPT, Excel) and outlook. If you have not used outlook, please try it out before internship so that you can be little bit familiar. * Flexibility and respect for other culture - Able to adapt in foreign working and living environment and respect the cultural differences - It is critical that internship experience is going to depend a lot on who you interact with other nationalities and co-workers and classmates from other culture.
