Description:
This specific opportunity calls for individuals with experience and education in water resource management and water sanitation. The ideal candidate is someone who has the education and skills to: Assess needs and design a project based on a village environmental assessment for the capacity to treat and use existing and appropriate water sources. Conduct training and education sessions for water sanitization methods in a village of Okurase, just outside of the capital city of Accra, Ghana. The intern will aid in teaching and training others, surveying local needs, planning projects as well as gaining valuable hands on experience all in the realm of water resource management and water-use education. This internship will be one step in the realization of Project Okurase's goals to develop a model community based on sustainable design. The purpose of Project Okurase is to help vulnerable and orphaned children impacted by HIV/AIDS in their family and village. This is done by meeting basic needs in safety, security, shelter, love, proper nutrition, health care, formal education, marketable job-skills training and job placement.

Qualifications:
Isla intern applicants should be 18 or older and possess a desire to learn about and live in another culture. Some experience or education in water resource management or water/health education is preferred. Candidates should be at college, graduate or professional levels, though we do have some "gap-year" candidates. Qualities required are: dependability for your service-learning assignment, adaptability, strong people-skills and a desire to have fun by serving and learning from new communities through cross-cultural exchange. Cost Include Description:
Program fees include your placement, pre-departure web-based training in sustainable community development, in-country cross-cultural orientation and materials, basic language training, room and board, mid-service development workshops and reflection group sessions, final debriefing and evaluation, medical and emergency evacuation insurance, safety and security, transfer from/to the airport to the training site, and experienced Isla staff. Not included: * Domestic and international airfare and airport taxes, the cost of your passport, visas, and immunizations, and laundry service.
