Isla offers the unique opportunity to live, learn, and serve in Peru in coordination with Village Earth and the Shipibo Nation. Immerse yourself in a rich cultural, service learning experience that combine cross-cultural and sustainable community development training with high impact hands-on service project. Apply for the Spring, Summer, or Fall 2010 program for a meaningful service learning experience and an enriching opportunity to experience life in a small Shipibo village in the Ucayali region of the central Peruvian Amazon. Isla offers short term volunteer (2-8 weeks) or internships (9-52 weeks) using a service learning model. Applicants are matched to a project according to their particular skill set and interests in one of the following program areas: Youth Development and Education, Health and Nutrition Education Natural Resources and Wildlife Environmental Conservation & Education Ecotourism Isla will match your particular skill set and interests to an appropriate project.

Qualifications:
Isla applicants should be 18 or older and possess a desire to learn about and live in another culture. Candidates should be undergraduate or graduate college students, though gap-year" students, working professionals and retirees will be considered. It is most important to be highly motivated and enthusiastic because the work can be quite demanding. Qualities required are: individuals who are adventurous, able to adapt quickly to a foreign environment, have the ability to take initiative, who are flexible and open-minded, service-oriented and who possess good communication skills,and a desire to have fun by serving and learning from new communities and environments through cross-cultural exchange. Cost Include Description:
Program fees include all program costs (excluding international airfare). Program costs include your placement, pre-departure web-based training in sustainable community development, flight from Lima to the Ucayali Region, in-country cross-cultural orientation and materials, basic language training, room and board, mid-service development workshops and reflection group sessions, final debriefing and evaluation, medical and emergency evacuation insurance, safety and security, in-country ground transportation from the airport to the training site, and experienced Isla and Village Earth staff. -This program is economical! We encourage you to shop around other international internship programs and compare fees. ***Not included: U.S. domestic and international airfare and airport taxes, the cost of your passport, visas, and immunizations, and laundry service.
