Description:
In the Center for Cross-Cultural Study (CC-CS) programs in Seville, qualified students have the option to earn university-level credit for completing a Service Learning Project in the sevillano community. As an addition to your core classes, these projects allow you special access to the daily life of local citizens, often hidden from students studying abroad, and are complemented by your program's emphasis on the thoughtful synthesis of your experience so that you may more fully integrate into the culture. Through a Service Learning Project, you have the opportunity to give back to your host community and to enhance your immersion experience. Your work in the field, guidance from the CC-CS Resident Director, and continual analysis of your experience allow you to gain a profound understanding of challenges facing the people of modern-day Seville. Program Features:
Dedication to academic excellence One-on-one interaction with professors and all courses taught in Spanish Homestays or student residencias Intercambios with native speakers Internships and Service Learning Projects available for qualified students Guidance in synthesizing the immersion experience All inclusive day and overnight study visits Time for independent travel On-Site Resident Director, Housing Coordinator, Computer Technician, Librarian, and Activities Coordinator
Highlights:
The CC-CS Center is located in a historic mansion in the heart of downtown Seville. A beautiful and ancient city on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville has a rich cultural life and is known for its winding Moorish streets, Renaissance gardens, flower-strewn patios, grand architecture, flamenco dancing, and music. The Center has been a social and cultural gathering place for both Americans and sevillanos since 1969. Each year, more than two hundred Spaniards study English at the Center and participate in intercambios (language-exchanges) with American students. The Center also actively promotes regular interaction of Spanish and American students by organizing social events and cultural activities such as outings to the theater, festivals and carnivals, art exhibits, concerts of classical and contemporary music, video presentations, and joint fiestas. All classes (avg. class size: 12 students) are taught in Spanish by native professors. Students are required to sign and adhere to a Spanish-only contract within the Center's facilities and classrooms, and can expect to leave the program with improved proficiency in Spanish. Available volunteer opportunities, service learning projects and internships for qualified students allow students to more fully integrate while giving back to your host community.
Qualifications:
Enrollment for either a semester or the full academic-year in Spain Prior understanding of normal, rapid Spanish (a minimum of 5 semesters of college-level Spanish) Academic or experiential preparation in the field. A written application for an internship, approved by the your home college and received at least 120 days before the start of the term.

The Center for Cross-Cultural Study's Mission Statement: The mission of the CC-CS is to promote our students' in-depth understanding of Spanish-speaking countries, through specifically designed academically rigorous university-level programs. We consider all of our students to be willing to cross cultural boundaries, to live as members of another culture, and to thus, learn about others as they learn about themselves.
In accordance with our mission to encourage our students to cross cultural boundaries, CC-CS promotes equal opportunities within our programs and does not discriminate on the basis of an individual's race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, age, physical ability, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. We believe in educating students on cultural tolerance and sensitivity, acceptance of differences, inclusiveness, and how diversity is viewed in other cultures.
