Term: Throughout the year
Durations of Program: 1-2 weeks, 2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: 2009-2012

Description: Volunteers will work with teachers, parents and carers, as well as other professionals, to try to bring about positive change that promotes effective education, well-being and inclusion of all children.

Teachers, parents/carers and other professionals consult volunteers like you about a wide range of concerns such as learning difficulties, social, emotional and behavioral problems, physical disabilities and classroom management issues.

In your time of voluntary service you will use consultations as a joint problem-solving approach in which people who share concerns work together to resolve problems and issues. Volunteers will use this approach because it is believed as most appropriate to work with parents/carers, teachers, and others who are in daily contact with children and young people; these are the people most likely to be affected by concerns and motivated to do something about their concerns. Wherever possible, the child or young person is also involved in the consultation process.

Highlights: All volunteers will work with children under five who did not undergo formal education, visit children and families at home and in preschool settings. We are looking forward to see volunteers providing psychological input.

Past volunteers used to help in the following areas:
* helping children on how to start at school,
* helping children on how to read and write,
* helping children on how to improve their self esteem
* working in HIV/AIDS and TB program and offer counseling and testing,
* counseling pre/post ART or TB treatment,
* working with children with disabilities, maternity care, hospitals etc.

The volunteer program locations are all over Kenya.
