Description:
The Maasai have largely managed to remain separate from mainstream African culture and maintain their traditional ways, although this becomes more challenging each year. For this reason Maasai are increasingly seeking opportunities African society has to offer. With little government support, Maasai struggles to find teachers and medical professionals to work in their schools and hospitals. Less than half of all Maasai children attend schools. Teaching volunteers are urgently needed to reverse this trend. Volunteers have the opportunity to educate children in primary and secondary school levels. Subjects will include English, Math, and Science.
Highlights:
Medical internship-volunteers on this program need to be registered medical doctors or nurses. Volunteers work with local doctors to assist with the daily medical routine: applying dressings, prescribing minor medication, recording patient history, patient consultations, minor surgeries, and counseling patients. Volunteers can work in the areas of maternal health, surgery, laboratories, dental clinics, counseling, and testing. Volunteer Accommodation: While volunteering, volunteers will be accommodated in either a home stay or dormitory situation. Host families have all been carefully selected to provide you with a safe family environment and an insight into Kenyan life. Reception of Volunteers: A member of staff will meet you upon arrival and help transport you to your location.
Qualifications:
* Medical internship-volunteers should be registered medical doctors and nurses. * Men and women above 18 years of age from all countries, regardless of race, religion or education. * Open minded people who can learn and share new and old skills and knowledge with others. * Participants who are willing to adapt to their situation regardless of phobias, fears of distractions. * Participants who are development focused.
Cost Include Description:
The costs you need to meet are: Your air ticket to and from the country, visa fees, vaccinations, local travel costs, accommodation costs outside project and insurance. You will also need a weekly budget of around 10 euro to cover your expenses like bottled water, personal effects, public transport, beverages, entertainment and transport costs to and from project site.Program participation fees: Application fee of 60 euro and will cover administration, program information, communication and the airport pick up. With the remainder of your fee due for payment eight weeks before you begin your placement.
