Swing with the Orangutans at this Ecolodge in Borneo
Malaysia
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer, Throughout the year, Trimester, Winter
Dates: all year
Description:
Our ecolodge is situated on the bank of the Kinabatagan River. We are open all year and are often fully booked. We offer dawn and dusk river cruises to tourists, where they can see the pygmy elephants, orang-utans, estuarine crocodiles, seven types of hornbill and six species of monkey, including the endemic proboscis monkey. We also offer night cruises and morning jungle treks. The ecolodge helps the local community by employing mainly local staff. We have run several community projects, including installation of water tanks. This project is part of Ecoteer - the solution to travel and volunteering on a shoestring Ecoteer is a unique volunteer opportunities agency - offering a directory of cheap volunteer work opportunities, volunteer jobs abroad and working holidays. Our volunteer opportunities are cheap because we have eliminated the middleman slashing the price to volunteer abroad for gapyears, careerbreaks and working holidays. Ecoteer is leading the way in a new type of volunteer work opportunities abroad and is changing the volunteer and working holiday industry back to what it used to be benefiting both the volunteer and the volunteer project. We have other opportunities in ecotourism, conservation, humanitarian aid and teaching in other 50 countries. Please inquire for more of our cheap volunteering opportunities.
Highlights:
Role of Volunteer As a volunteer at our lodge your time will be split into two periods. You will start your placement in Kota Kinabalu (KK), where you will work in the Head Office of our mother company and live in the Borneo Backpackers. We feel this will help you to settle in before you go to Sukau. When in the head office you will assist in small projects, e.g. making tourist guides of KK. You will also be asked to assess the quality of our tours around Sabah, allowing you to see the whole of Sabah whilst giving us your opinion on the tours. You will then go to our ecolodge, you will initially be treated as a tourist so that you can familiarise yourself with your surroundings. In the long-term, your work will depend largely on your interests. You could become a guide on the river cruises, a chef or general worker. We welcome everybody but give preference to people with relevant degrees/experiences. We are very keen to have english teaching students who could help our staff and villagers to improve their language skills.
