Description: Attend V!VA's Travel Writing Boot Camps: Learn to Travel Write. Get Published. Get Paid.

V!VA's Boot Camps are five-day-long travel guidebook writing crash courses.

2010 Boot Camps:
Ecuador: January 4-8               
PerĂº: January 18-22            

Students hit the ground running with assignments, learn how to write guidebooks and have their work critiqued by seasoned professionals. This is a great opportunity for aspiring writers to gain hands-on travel writing skills and experience and get paid!

Upon successful completion of the course, Boot Camp graduates have the opportunity to stay on assignment as field writers and be compensated. Works will be published in the upcoming guidebooks for each country.

The cost of the course is USD 350. (Does not include transportation, lodging and other expenses.)

Writers who perform up to standard, and who stay on assignment and produce more than 200 reviews will have their course fee refunded in addition to normal compensation. Also, there is a discount of USD 100 for residents of the country where each bootcamp is held.

For Ecuador residents the cost of the Quito boot camp is USD 175.

V!VA is looking for a select army of talented and adventurous writers to train out in the field and jump start their travel writing careers.

Travel Writing Boot Camps and Get Published

Highlights:
- Gain hands-on learning experience from professional writers and editors.
- Attend an introductory course on producing digital photography for the internet.
- Practice what you learn by staying "on assignment" after the course and become a "contributing author" to an upcoming book.

Qualifications: he essential and desired applicant characteristics are detailed below. The most important requirements are, by far, the ability to write, meet deadlines and standards, flexibility and an enthusiasm and willingness to learn.

- Proven writing talent and ability to write in an informative and captivating manner
- Ability to turn in excellent copy and able to meet deadlines and standards
- High level of attention to detail
- An ability to communicate in Spanish
- Experience of independent travel
- Web savvy
- Highly organized
- Flexible and resilient
- Enthusiasm for travel writing
- Willingness to learn

Desired Skills, Abilities and Experience

- Writing qualifications (e.g. Journalism degree or M.A.)
- Writing and/or editing experience, preferably published
- Significant experience of independent travel in Latin America
- Intermediate Spanish, or commitment to attend classes as part of the visit to the host country
