Description: The Canvas Art Program (CAP) is a new artistic outreach program that works with a wide-range of social groups and humanitarian organizations in Chiang Mai. It was created by Cultural Canvas Thailand (CCT) to approach volunteerism through a creative lens.

The Canvas Art Program believes in providing a voice for individuals by exploring various creative means, including visual, performance and experimental arts.

This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone with a background in art or art therapy.

Scope of Work and Responsibilities of Intern:

1. To know and understand CAP's partner organizations and focus groups.

2. Create workshops and art projects that match the needs of CAP's partner organizations.

3. Liaise with CAP's partner organizations, to ensure that there is an open dialogue and that CAP's partner organizations are informed and satisfied.

4. Plan and implement artistic outreach workshops in each of CAP's partner organizations.

5. Manage CAP volunteers, helping to ensure that they are playing an active role in the development of CAP before and during their placement.

6. Plan and execute 1-2 art exhibitions/fundraisers per year.

7. Fundraising and community outreach.

8. Keep up-to-date accounts of all monetary transactions.

9. Attend family dinner (staff and volunteers) at the volunteer house weekly.

10. Maintain CAP supplies, keeping them well organized, clean and inventoried.

11. Create materials to help maintain the fluidity of the art program for current and future staff and volunteers.

12. Maintaining and organizing works produced by participants.

13. Organize the sale of art created by participants in the event of an exhibition or a fundraiser.

14. Update the CAP website - choosing photos for gallery as well as writing text for each project, photographing all materials to be sold in the CAP art store.

15. Buy all art materials needed for each workshop - make sure to always ask for material donations from local shops and/ or discounts.

16. To be practiced in each method of art being taught prior to the workshop date, as well as arrange for the workshop facilitator to teach the staff/volunteers that will be present, or teach them him/her self at least 1 day prior to the workshop date.

Highlights: You will have an opportunity to work with various populations including: Burmese refugees, indigenous hill tribes groups, and children from a local orphanage. This opportunity is ideal for someone who likes to be involved in numerous projects and can work independently as well as with a group. There are opportunities to work with other local artists on projects as well as design and implement your own creative visions.

Qualifications: A background in art or art therapy. Previous experience in non-profit work is not necessary, but would be helpful.

  • Salary / Pay: 0-3 Month Probation Period - During this time, CCT will cover housing, food and in-country transportation. We ask that you cover the cost of your flights and insurance ($55.00/month) for the first three months. Additionally we ask that you cover the cost of a Thai language program (approx. $140.00). After this trial period, CCT will cover the cost of your insurance.

    Cultural Canvas Thailand's Mission Statement: The mission of Cultural Canvas Thailand is to generate awareness and volunteer support of the current social issues facing Chiang Mai, Thailand. We promote equality, community interaction, and social change through artistic outreach and volunteer services in conjunction with local organizations. Culural Canvas Thailand and our partner organizations focus on education and assistance in the following areas: HIV/AIDS, refugees, impoverished ethnic minorities, and sex workers.
