SPW has been working in Uganda since 1998, focusing on its mission of placing young people at the forefront of change and development. In partnership with partnership with district and national government and other non-governmental organizations, it currently delivers two volunteer-led programmes: 1. The Youth Empowerment Programme addressing youth needs in Eastern Uganda, and 2. The Youth Recovery & Development Programme, working with young people in the post-conflict region of Northern Uganda. In line with SPW's approach internationally, SPW Uganda engages young Ugandan and international volunteers, who are trained and deployed as Volunteer Peer Educators (VPEs) working full-time in rural communities delivering a package of activities that address health, life skills and livelihoods. In 2007/08, it supported 99 volunteers working in 20 sub-counties across 4 districts. Following the first year of a two-year pilot programme, SPW Uganda will be updating its curricula for the second year of the pilot programme and is looking for a young professional interested in furthering their career in development to take on this challenging and technical task. The key objectives for the assignment are: 1. To work with the Programmes Manager and programme unit to determine the curricula required for 2008/09 programmes 2. To work with the programmes unit to confirm curricula contents, session objectives and essential content 3. To draft the curricula in time for staff training on December 15th
Highlights:
Work closely with SPW Uganda staff in the development of revamped training materials to be used in bolstering training of 2009 program volunteers.
Qualifications:
Qualifications: * Candidate must possess knowledge and understanding of how to identify best practices and develop case studies. * Experience in program development and solicitation of feedback from rural community populations * Willingness to work in rural areas of Uganda * Excellent communication skills to be able to interact with the SPW Uganda staff and also with the community people where the VPEs are be placed * The candidate must be at least a university graduate with experience in curriculum development in the programme areas or experience in other related areas. SPW will arrange for them to be collected at the airport upon their arrival, and will help arrange accommodations and provide, at least, fortnightly management meetings with the intern and Program Manager. All costs and living expenses will be the responsibility of the volunteer.
