Description: Shepherds Orphanage and Educational Centre (S.O.E.C) is a Charitable Children's Institution that was founded in the year 2004 by Mr. John M. Macharia and Mr. Wasilwa Lusweti as a solution of addressing the following problems:

* High prevalence of Orphans due to increase in HIV/AIDS pandemic.
* Increase in incidents of drug trafficking and doping among the youth and children.
* High rate of Primary school dropouts due to high poverty levels in the community that culminates in practice of prostitution among the girls youth group.

Hence the institution was founded as a way of rehabilitating HIV/AIDS Orphans and Vulnerable Children from the slum and its neighborhood. The Orphanage has a population of 60 children. 42 children reside at the Orphanage while 18 are supported by the Orphanage as they stay with their foster parents and guardians. These children are taken care of by 6 volunteer workers namely; the matron, the kitchen-helper, a social worker, social health worker and two dormitory attendants. This volunteer team is supervised by the Person in-Charge who also sits on the Board of Directors of the Orphanage.
