Gifted Education Researcher (Beijing, China)

Term: Throughout the year 
Length of Position: Full-time
Durations of Program: 3-6 months, 7-12 months and 1-2 years

Description: Job Duties: Analyze pertinent data to identify current trends in the field of gifted education, internationally and in China. Prepare articles that effectively communicate critical information impacting the field of gifted education. Serve as editor-in-chief of a quarterly newsletter regarding developments in the field and make recommendations for parents, teachers, students, school administrators, and others. Active engagement in program and curriculum development and implementation.

Other duties include:
1) Develop and coordinate activities aimed at influencing local, regional and national policy change for the benefit of gifted learners;
2) Provide educational consulting and instruction to teachers, parents, educational organizations, and Promise Academy Board of Directors and staff about the characteristics of gifted students, best educational practices for such learners, and current trends in the field of gifted education;
3) Compile and manage a clearinghouse of information that addresses common concerns and issues regarding the academic and social-emotional needs of gifted students;
4) Identify key areas in the field of gifted education that warrant further research and consideration; develop research priorities, design research studies, collect and maintain relevant data, and disseminate research findings through newsletters, conference presentations and journal publications;
5) Cultivate and maintain relationships with state leaders, teachers, parents, administrators, organizations, and experts in the field to promote interest and increase awareness regarding the needs of gifted and talented students;
6) Prepare budgetary recommendations for special projects; monitor and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds; and
7) Support the team in developing a business plan and fund raising strategy.

The relationship between the Specialist and the Board of Directors and other units is one of collegiality and independent functioning, with central coordination and budget oversight and planning handled by the Executive Director. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Gifted Education Researcher (Beijing, China)

Highlights: Students from the Promise Academy will have the opportunity to explore and develop their talents and interests through comprehensive class offerings as well as gain greater appreciation of the world through exchange programs abroad. The school will open in 2009.

Qualifications: Education: Advanced degree required (minimum Master's level), in education or related field preferred.

Experience:
1. Some knowledge of and experience in research principles and methodology.
2. Proven ability to analyze, interpret, and convert data into useful information for key decision makers.
3. Commitment to, and experience with, assessment of learning strategies.
4. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to organize and present findings effectively.
5. Strong and effective leadership, and interpersonal skills.
6. Exceptional organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
7. Ability to adjust to changing priorities.
