Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer

  Ghana
    Cape Coast

Term: Throughout the year
Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks, 3-6 months and 7-12 months
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks

Description: The successful volunteer or intern must have good writing, research and monitoring and evaluating skills. She/He will be in-charge of the monitoring and evaluation component of our new youth focused newspaper project - Youth Alive!

The intern/volunteer will help develop monitoring and evaluation tools to measure the success or otherwise of the project and help keep everyone on track.

Overall Project Objective:

To widen the political and social space in which Ghanaian youth are permitted to actively engage with social, cultural, environmental and governance issues in a manner that is characterized by diversity, independence and critical thinking.

Expected Outcomes:

We are ultimately trying to create an environment in which youth feel comfortable and safe expressing their independent ideas, criticisms and solutions. This is expected to directly counteract the disillusionment currently growing among the youth. It is also expected that in the long-term youth engagement will necessarily lead to greater government concern around youth issues.

In the interim, we expect to give youth the chance to develop valuable life skills, like critical thinking, leadership skills, and confidence in one's own voice. These skills, regardless of the newspaper, will then be available to youth to use within their own communities towards organizing and engaging others.

Highlights: The incumbent will travel through the six region (Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Eastern, Volta and Central Regions) which the project will take place. She/He will work with the project coordinator and other project staff to run the Youth Engagement Workshops which are key to the project.
