Description:
Purpose: To further Puente's relationships with local businesses Location: Oaxaca City, Mexico Time Commitment: Minimum two months, 25 hours per week Level of Spanish needed: Advanced Level of English needed: Intermediate Responsibilities: This intern will visit local businesses and speak with the owners about Puente. These businesses might be locally or foreign owned restaurants, food stores, clothing stores, etc. The intern will be given a basic script and a list of potential contacts from which to start. The purpose of the first visit will be to educate the business owner about Puente's mission and gauge the owner's interest while the second visit might be to ask for publicity in the business, a small monetary donation, or donated goods for an event. The intern might also conduct research on other potential partnerships for Puente. One day per week, this intern has the opportunity to visit a rural community in order to observe Puente's work firsthand.
Highlights:
An internship with Puente a la Salud Comunitaria offers an opportunity to experience the promotion of amaranth, a grain native to Mexico, uniquely suited to face some of Southern Mexico's greatest health risks. Through the community visits, the intern experiences first-had the diversity of the Oaxacan countryside, as well as the impact of a grassroots public health approach.

Salary / Pay: The internship ais unpaid; however, occasionally a small stipend might be included. All internships require a minimum commitment of two months except under special circumstances. Most internships are designed for those with a graduate level education or people with at least two years of paid experience in a similar position.
