Description:
Purpose: To provide insight and advice to Puentes directors about starting an income-generating social venture.
Location: Oaxaca City, Oaxaca
Time Commitment: Minimum three months, 25 hours per week
Level of Spanish needed: Basic         
Level of English needed: Fluent

Responsibilities:
Puente is interested in starting a business that would provide earned income for its non-profit programs and services. This consultant will conduct an assessment of Puente's organizational strengths, weaknesses, and competitive advantages. After surveying the business climate in Oaxaca and determining a potential business venture, this person will complete a feasibility study. Time permitting, this consultant will also create a business plan for Puente to move forward in establishing this venture. Twice per month, this consultant has the opportunity to visit a rural community in order to observe Puente's work firsthand.

Highlights: A Puente a la Salud internship offers an opportunity to experience the promotion of amaranth, a grain native to Mexico, uniquely suited to face some of Southern Mexico's greatest health risks. Through the community visits, the intern experiences first-had the diversity of the Oaxacan countryside, as well as the impact of a grassroots public health approach.

Qualifications:
- Degree in business (or in the process of acquiring a business degree)
- Knowledge of international business practices
- Knowledge of Mexican culture
- Experience with non-profit organizations
- Experience with start-up organizations
