Description: The eye camps are conducted up to four times a year, mostly between May and December. They are usually two weeks long, and involve a team of about 14 people visiting a number of villages to provide free eye care or low cost care in towns and to screen patients for cataract surgery.

Highlights: This is a great opportunity for those wishing to donate their time and skills to restore sight to many people in Africa. The duties are organized in such a way to provide volunteers with time to explore the beauty of the country and to interact with the locals.

Qualifications: Currently positions are available for optometrists, ophthalmologists, cataract surgeons, optical dispensers, ophthalmic nurses, ophthalmic theatre nurses, optometry students and support staff (no specific skills required)

Typical Volunteer: Ona Network's volunteers are dedicated to providing quality eye care services to underprivileged rural Tanzanians in a compassionate, caring and responsible way. They are flexible and have an understanding that cultural differences are important. They may or may not have a background in eye health.
