Sustainable Tourism Project Coordinator - Costa Rica

  Costa Rica
  • Central Pacific Coast:
  • Cartago

Term: Throughout the year

Description: We are a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica, offering volunteer tour packages for individual travelers, families and groups interested in exploring the culture, contributing to the communities, learning the language and discovering the natural beauty of Costa Rica.

As a foundation, we receive calls and emails daily from communities and smaller organizations asking us to help them and send them volunteers. Of course we can't send volunteers to everyone, so we've come up with a volunteer directory project where we'll offer websites to small community organizations, groups and foundations here in Costa Rica. We'll do the marketing for them, payment processing etc., and then we'll take a small commission to cover our costs. This will be especially helpful for communities who know nothing about computers, marketing etc. It will give them the opportunity to bring in volunteers that they would never have had access to.

We're looking for an intern to manage the project, somebody who will meet with all the groups and communities to help them see the benefits, understand the details, get started and coach them through how it all works. The intern will define and customize how we can help them, help build our relationship with them, collect the data (descriptions, photos, videos, prices, etc.) and then provide our webmaster with the information so they can build the site. The intern will also be responsible for following up and maintaining lines of communication with these partner organizations.

Sustainable Tourism Project Coordinator - Costa Rica

Highlights: Make a difference to communities in Costa Rica while learning community development skills and gaining valuable work experience. Work as part of our friendly team and experience the Costa Rican culture first hand. It's a great way to improve your Spanish as you'll be traveling throughout the country, meeting and helping various communities.

Qualifications: We accept university students from all disciplines, but they must have a least an intermediate command of the Spanish language. We are seeking someone who is reliable, independent and enthusiastic, and someone who will be committed to helping our growing organization become even more successful in helping some of Costa Ricas communities in need.

Tropical Adventures's Mission Statement: The Tropical Adventures Foundation is a resource for empowering individuals and communities inside and outside of Costa Rica. Our goals are to: Support the inherent value of the individual, reduce poverty and injustice, help communities achieve sustainable growth, create safe environments, promote international learning and cooperation and foster personal and worldwide peace. Every community around the world faces the fundamental challenge to create social and economic systems that promote peace, human welfare and the sustainability of the environment on which life depends. We meet this challenge by supporting and encouraging initiatives by those living and working closest to where the problems are located. We promote collaboration among diverse individuals, nonprofit organizations, government and businesses from the local area and around the world, as well as from every level of society. Our experience shows such activities help build common understanding, bring forward and reinforce the inherent value of the individual, strengthen a sense of local and worldwide community, and ultimately enable people to improve their lives and reinforce their commitment to society.
