Description:
Operation Tech Start is currently looking for gadget geeks with a background in technology, businesses management, or development who thrive in a challenging environment to join a team of volunteers. Volunteer Duties: * Preparing and participating in focus groups with farmers on communication practices * Meeting with farming stakeholders to generate practical solutions to communication problems * Monitoring and maintaining status reports on the progress on computer lab & rural research * Assisting in the day-to-day operations of a new non-profit organization
Highlights:
This is not your average volunteer program! As pioneers of a new project in an area far off the tourist track in Tanzania, you will be immersed in the culture as you cannot experience from any vacation abroad. You will learn to speak their language (Swahili), practice their customs such as lengthy greetings, and gain skills in self-reliance...while making a huge impact in the lives of others. You will also have the opportunity to shape the program for future volunteers. And you only pay for what you need. This program does not charge a fee for your good deeds. Qualifications:
* Aged 22 or over * Available for an overseas stay in Tabora, Tanzania for 3 months * Physically and mentally healthy * Excellent English verbal and written communication skills (the Swahili will come with time) * Strong comfort level with computer applications, online resources, and mobile technologies * Background in networking and/or mobile programming * A willingness to exercise patience and flexibility in the face of new cultures and experiences

Cost Include Description:
Volunteers do not pay a fee for this program! However you are required to cover the costs for this experience including: * Swahili language training ($200) * Food & accommodation ($468) * Domestic ($318) & international (depends on country of origin) flights to Tabora, Tanzania * Insurance for travel & medical (approx. $400) * Visa processing fees (approx. $150) * Extra spending money while in Tanzania including travel before or after volunteering The total costs will depend on you. However we recommend volunteers budget at least $3500 for this experience.

Operation Tech Start's Mission Statement: Operation Tech Start is a nonprofit project of Southern New Hampshire Universitys Community Economic Development graduate program. Our goal is to upgrade the information and communication technologies (ICT) for the street children and struggling farmers in Tanzania by establishing a wireless computer training center and laying the groundwork for connectivity in the rural regions.
Our Mission:
1. To educate the practical application of new technologies.
2. To preserve cultural values while improving the lives of people in Tanzania.
3. To strengthen partnerships between African & American entities.
