Developing Environmental Youth Programs in Rural Egypt
Egypt
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer, Throughout the year, Trimester, Winter
Dates: flexible
Description:
The Organization: The Mediterranean Center for Sustainable Development Programs (MCSDP) was founded in response to the need for a working model of sustainable development in the Mediterranean region; a model that would provide hands on opportunities for developmental field practitioners, educators, students, non-governmental and governmental institutions, universities and research centers to experience the benefits of good governance and information and communication technologies (ICT) on the sustainable development process. Our vision is to become a regional living laboratory that inspires, informs and involves youth and their educational mentors to engage in learning about and applying sustainable development principles and practices locally and globally in their daily lives. In addition, the Mediterranean Center for Sustainable Development Programs will become a focal point for schools and communities that brings youth together and motivates them to increase their awareness of the root causes and impacts of global warming and climate change, and builds their capacities to take action. What will I do? Interns will be encouraged to work in multiple focus areas simultaneously: research, program design, communication and marketing, IT applications and program implementation / management. This will give interns a well-rounded experience and fulfill our organizational needs. What does that mean? Interns will be engaged in any or all of the following activities: - Research on global warming, climate change, environmental / outdoor education, linkages between good governance, education and environment, leadership, sustainable development, resource mobilization and grant writing - Program design - sustainable villages, healthy schools, eco-schools, strategic planning, environmental education and awareness campaigns, curriculum development, information technology - Communication and marketing business plan development, networking and resource mobilization, public relations, media campaigns, partnership development - IT applications- developing the interface between sustainable development and IT, curriculum development, website maintenance, troubleshooting - Program implementation- volunteering at the site in Beni Suef during school and camp programs
