CC-CS Internships in Seville

  Spain
  • Seville:
  • Seville (Sevilla)

Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: --

Description: Take advantage of the opportunity to combine study in Spain with practical work experience in the field. Up to six credits of the required semester course-load may be fulfilled by the completion of a non-paid internship in a Spanish office, business or service organization.

Interns typically spend 10-15 hours per week in the workplace while attending classes at the Center. Students must submit an Internship Application Form and credit must be approved by the candidate's home college. Applicants are advised to program an alternative course or Independent Research Project in case a proposed internship fails to materialize. A limited number of volunteer positions requiring fewer hours than the internship are available for no credit.

Internships available in: Animal Science/Horses, Communications, Education, Health Services, International Business, Information Technology/Graphic Design, Museums and Cultural Centers/Fine Art, Physical Therapy/Psychology, Political Science, Public Relations, Social Work, Tourism Industry and more.

Highlights: Your academic experience takes place in two classic turn-of-the-century mansions in the heart of Seville's commercial and social district. CC-CS is a short walk from the University of Seville and some of Spain's most glorious and historic sites. These include the Cathedral and Giralda (the symbol of Seville), the Torre del Oro, the Alcyzar palace, many museums and the beautiful Guadalquivir River. Seville is also located within an hour and a half of the Costa del Sol and its sunny beaches. CC-CS led study tours are included at no extra cost.

The Center has been a social and cultural gathering place for both Americans and Sevillanos since 1969. Each year, more than two hundred Spaniards study English at the Center and participate in Intercambios (language-exchanges) with American students. In addition to organizing the Intercambio program, the Center actively promotes regular interaction of Spanish and American students by organizing social events and cultural activities such as outings to the theater, festivals and carnivals, art exhibits, concerts of classical and contemporary music, video presentations, and joint fiestas. Shared library facilities, study rooms, lounges and common areas at the Center together with home stays give American students an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the culture and language of Spain first hand.

Qualifications: A number of opportunities are available to work without pay in a Spanish office, business or service organization. Internships are not available to Intensive Intermediate students. Internships must be taken in conjunction with a full course load at the Center for Cross-Cultural Study in Seville.

Requirements:

  • Enrollment for either a semester or the full academic-year in Spain
  • Prior understanding of normal, rapid Spanish (a minimum of 5 semesters of college-level Spanish)
  • Academic or experiential preparation in the field.
  • A written application for an internship, approved by the your home college and received at least 120 days before the start of the term.

Due to complex labor laws and because internships are not completely within the control of the Center, even accepted applications for internships cannot be guaranteed. Therefore, as a potential intern, you are advised to select an alternative course, or an Independent Research Project in the event that a proposed internship fails to materialize. Please note that all internships are unpaid.

The Center for Cross-Cultural Study's Mission Statement: The mission of the CC-CS is to promote our students' in-depth understanding of Spanish-speaking countries, through specifically designed academically rigorous university-level programs. We consider all of our students to be willing to cross cultural boundaries, to live as members of another culture, and to thus, learn about others as they learn about themselves.

In accordance with our mission to encourage our students to cross cultural boundaries, CC-CS promotes equal opportunities within our programs and does not discriminate on the basis of an individual's race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, age, physical ability, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. We believe in educating students on cultural tolerance and sensitivity, acceptance of differences, inclusiveness, and how diversity is viewed in other cultures.
