The position is a pretty intense one, although definitely rewarding! The Project Coordinator will be responsible for: * Leading fundraising efforts for the event with direction from The Foundation * Overseeing the creation of radio, print and television advertisements * Arranging drink and food vendors for the event * Recruiting mentors from a pre-selected group of respected individuals in the community * Directing volunteers who will be responsible for inviting and arranging the transportation of High School students attending the free event. * Creation and distribution of feedback questionnaire to participants * A follow-up report regarding the success of the event and recommendations for improvement.
Highlights:
The primary objectives of Mentorship Conference 2009 include: * Providing youth access to mentors on an individual basis so as to support their successful emergence as Ghana's future leaders. * Encouraging youth participants to recognize their potential and gain greater confidence in their ability to achieve their goals. * Exposing youth participants to pitfalls experienced by mentors so that they are better prepared to avoid such problems in the future. * Inspiring youth participants to embrace a strong sense of direction and patriotism. * Refocusing all participants, including mentors, towards the importance of youth participation in community building. Mentorship Conference 2009 is entirely free of charge for all interested youth. Participants are provided transportation, a free midday meal, and access to our online forum following the event. It is an important event that provides much needed guidance and motivation to Ghanaian youth from all backgrounds.
Qualifications:
Currently, The Abusua Foundation is recruiting one Project Coordinator for our Mentorship Conference 2009 that takes place in late March. This position ideally starts in early January and is full-time until early April. Some combination of the following skills/qualities are desired: * High School Diploma Required * Undergraduate degree in the Social Sciences preferred * Experience working with youth (14 - 18 years) * Cultural Sensitivity * Enthusiastic and Self-Motivated * Good communication skills, both written and verbal * Patience * Fundraising experience is helpful, though not required
Cost in US$: 120 a week
Cost Include Description:
While The Abusua Foundation sincerely wishes it could afford to cover the living expenses of the successful applicant, due to our limited financial resources we are unable. However, the placement is being offered at cost (approximately $120/week) and the program fee covers the following: - Airport pick-up and drop-off - One-night accomodation at The Pink Hostel in Accra on the eve of your arrival - Three meals daily - Living Accommodation for the duration of your stay in Cape Coast - 50% of your local transportation expenses Note: This fee does not include airfare or insurance.
