Description:
This program started after the tragedy Hurricane Mitch. With so many in need, and generous donation of medicines and medical supplies from America and other countries concerned about Hondura's welfare after the disaster, the medical clinic just sort of naturally evolved. Three years ago we began a medical and nursing student program for medical and nursing students to help serve and train in our clinic. It's a hands-on opportunity for students to learn and help treat the extent of unchecked disease when basic necessities of life are lacking. Both medical and pre-medical students have come from all over the world to do their medical electives and to just volunteer. While with us you will work in the general medical clinic attending patients under a doctor's supervision . The doctor is here in the mornings. He leaves at noon and returns the next morning. He checks all your work every day. You may also work in the pharmacy filling prescriptions or doing inventory to help keep things in order. There is a local rehab center. A typical day starts with seeing patients between 7:30 and 8:00. We attend patients until the last one is done, usually 4:30 or 5 pm.
