Description:
Teaching assistants will work with our teachers and educators, help children with reading and homework, teach English, arts and crafts, music, science, sports, etc. A minimum commitment of six weeks necessary, as well as an intermediate level of Spanish.

Cost Include Description:
Cost for volunteers includes housing in simple accommodations at our children's center or in our guest house. Rooms may be shared with one or two other volunteers/interns, bathrooms are shared. Volunteers have meals with the children at the center. There may be opportunities to travel within Nicaragua to visit other projects, attend conferences or assist with project business.
Salary / Pay: Interns who commit to a period of six months or longer may be exempted from volunteer cost and receive a stipend of $100 per month.

Typical Volunteer: Our volunteers so far have been university students, our interns are recent graduates; but we would be interested in applicants of all ages including retirees or persons interested in taking a mid-career break. We can accomodate couples and possibly families.

Post Services Include:
Hogar Luceros del Amanecer's Mission Statement: Hogar Luceros del Amanecer was opened in response to the need of providing social services to at-risk children and their families. These services includes providing adequate nutrition, medical care, and educational support. We operate day and residential programs for children who are not in school or are at-risk for leaving school and consequently at-risk for delinquency or exploitation, because of extreme poverty or family difficulties. We also operate an organic farm to provide better nutrition and training for the children. We work closely with the families to help them access social services and opportunities to improve their living situation. We seek to accompany these children and their families on their journey to a brighter future.
