Description:
The GMF is a small but growing organization dedicated to the promotion and education of traditional styles of Ghanaian music within Ghana, Africa and the world as a whole. The organization is in its infancy but has some very strong backing to ensure the project takes shape and achieves its aims. Ghana has made efforts to develop its music industry with meetings with development partners such as the World Bank, UNESCO, European Union, French Embassy, Goethe Institut. There is an urgent need for the development, promotion and sustenance of the music industry in Ghana and the protection and preservation of national cultural heritage for posterity. The organizations founding members include: * Cox Tamakloe: Music Programme Director for Joy FM, one of Ghana's largest radio stations. * Professor John Collins: Professor at the Music Department at the University of Ghana and he wrote and presented the BBC's first-ever 5-part series of radio programmes on African popular music called 'In The African Groove' * Famous artists such as Stan Plange, C.K. Mann, Ebo Taylor and Papa Yankson. The organization is initially looking for volunteers & interns to help with the setting up of the organization, the sourcing of funds and developing their Highlife compilation CD. Current Placement Opportunities * Project coordinator The GMF are looking for a volunteer or intern to come and help them with the logistics of setting up an office and research any potential new projects the organizations could be involved in. * Product Developer The GMF are developing a compilation CD for the celebration of 50 years of Ghanaian independence. The CD will feature 50 of the best Ghanaian highlife musicians. The aim is to retail it both in Ghana and throughout the rest of the world. The launch of the CD will be seen as the official launch of the GMF. The GMF is looking for a volunteer or intern to come and help with the finishing touches to the CD. * Promotions Coordinator The GMF are developing a compilation CD for the celebration of 50 years of Ghanaian independence. The CD will feature 50 of the best Ghanaian highlife musicians. The aim is to retail it both in Ghana and throughout the rest of the world. The launch of the CD will be seen as the official launch of the GMF. The organization is looking for volunteers & interns to promote the CD in Ghana and especially in Europe and the US. This will include plugging the CD to radio stations in these countries. * Fundraiser A fundraiser is needed to source funds for new projects & the organization as a whole. This could include finding funding for a Children & Music project or new records, etc. Additionally, you will be required to frequent concerts and cultural organizations in Accra, to attend occasional evening events, and represent GFM with other volunteers of the foundation. This will be a wonderful way to learn about the city and meet people.
