Health Internship in Quito for Children with Cancer
Ecuador
Term: Fall, Spring, Summer, Throughout the year, Winter
Durations of Program: 5-8 weeks and 9-12 weeks
Typical Duration of Program: 5-8 weeks
Dates: multiple start dates year round
Description:
The focus of the project is to help children who have cancer and need to receive medical treatment as spending time with children at a hospital in Quito. According to the World Health Organization, 70% of children with cancer have a chance of full recovery if they have access to modern medicine; however, in developing countries such as Ecuador, there is very little hope for children that come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The aim of this project is to help improve the situation of these children, whom are residing in Quito's only children's public hospital, by assisting the staff in the hospital, discussing the situation with parents, take care of or play with the children, and train the staff of the hospital if you have specialized knowledge to do so.
