Be part of it with i-to-i! Our goal is to achieve 400yrs of combined volunteering all over the world by the end of 2008. So far we have achieved 325yrs which when broken down means we achieved the following: - Over 5500 children cared for on our community projects around the world - A minimum of 13,000 children and adults taught English in schools and community centres - Hundreds of animals protected including Turtles, Pandas, Elephants, Monkeys and more - At least 80 homes and structures built for families and communities in need - More than 8000 trees planted which are enough trees to offset the CO2 emissions of over 2,000 cars Want to see the past and the future? They say if you want to know the future then you should study the past and this is especially true in the case of China; a country capable of dominating the next century but one which also wears its past proudly on its sleeve. As a country it has about 3000 years worth of history to dust down and catalogue so you may have your hands full. You will be working in the underground exhibition halls at the Hanyangling Museum with some of the country's most prized national treasures, so handle with care! You will spend your days collating visitor feedback, assisting tour guides with their English as well as guiding tour groups yourself, before enjoying the beauty of present day China amongst the rolling hills of the valley. Highlights:
What were the highlights of your trip that you couldn't wait to tell your friends about? "The memories of all the nice people that I met will stay with me for a long time; from the great tours of the museum by Mr Tiger to all the wonderful volunteers that I'm still in touch with!" (Jen Leahy) The world famous Terracotta Warriors were discovered in March 1974 when local farmers were drilling a well in search of water. By volunteering at this project you will get a unique opportunity to work at this UNESCO World Heritage site that dates back 2, 200 years. The project is located around 30 kms. east of Xi'an and has around 350 staff. You will be working within the Education Department of the project which has around 40 staff, assisting with many different activities. In addition to working with the Terracotta museum you will also have the choice after 2 weeks of assisting at a Tea House in Xi'an city.
