Argentina
- All Other Regions of Argentina:
La Plata
Description:
FSD provides college students and professionals with the opportunity to gain practical hands-on experience through interning with one of our local partner organizations, as part of an integrated program that includes a family homestay, orientation and evaluation sessions, organization grants, and ongoing program support. Internships are available in a variety of areas, including; Health, Nutrition, Education, Youth Development, Human Rights, Women's Issues, Environment/Conservation, Marketing, Microfinance, Agriculture, and many more.
Highlights:
Most FSD internships are located in the city of La Plata, capital of Buenos Aires province, which is in turn the principle province of Argentina. La Plata is not only aesthetically pleasing, located on the western bank of the estuary of Rijo de la Plata, and known for its wide avenues and numerous parks and plazas, but it is also an area rich in internship opportunities. The city's major distinguishments are as a university town, hosting three well-established and highly-esteemed universities, and as an administrative center, as the seat of local authorities and the provincial government. La Plata was founded as the provincial capital in 1882, after the former provincial capital of Buenos Aires was made the national capital of Argentina. For a variety of reasons, including its educational and administrative capacities, locals boast of their city as a center of science and culture. Today, it represents an area of approximately 940km, and is home to a population of around 600,000 inhabitants. The local weather is somewhat humid, and temperatures vary around a yearly average of 60F degrees in this temperate climate, where seasons are the reverse of those in the northern hemisphere. Finally, as La Plata rests approximately an hour by train (or other form of transportation) outside of Buenos Aires, you can expect to enter this famed city on a regular basis over the duration of your stay with FSD.

Foundation for Sustainable Development's Mission Statement: FSD supports the efforts of grassroots organizations in the developing world that are working to better their communities, environments, and the economic opportunities around them. We believe community development is only sustainable if it empowers the people to effectively use and cultivate their own resources in a conscious manner. Through our programs, we aim to raise international awareness of the economic challenges in developing countries and to support cross-cultural communities in finding more effective solutions to development issues.
