Internship in Costa Rica

  Costa Rica
  • San Jose:
  • San Jose

Term: Throughout the year
Dates: 1st and 3rd Monday of each Month - all year

Description: Global Crossroad organizes a Costa Rica internship program especially for international students in the fields of sustainable agriculture and conservation work, teaching English, assistance to orphanages, and health care. Global Crossroad can offer internships in Costa Rica in any area, in collaboration with our local partners. Areas of Costa Rica internship include (but are not limited to):

* Teaching English
* Tourism/Eco-tourism
* International Business
* Healthcare/Medical
* Journalism

Under the Costa Rica internship program, the intern engages in daily project activities. In most cases, interns develop a report paper in a particular area of interest by working closely with the Global Crossroad project staff. Generally, the director of this project serves as a supervisor for the intern. As an intern, you stay with a host family who lives near the project in which you are involved. Most of the time, the director of the project will work to help you successfully complete your field report. Please contact Global Crossroad if you need any help locating information or materials for your internship program. In order to get the most out of your internship position in Costa Rica, Global Crossroad recommends at least two weeks of Spanish language programs. These programs will provide you with a necessary, comprehensive start in exploring the every day issues of Costa Rica. Many times, language difficulties hinder the effectiveness of interning. Furthermore, it is possible to organize extra tutorials with experts of particular areas for additional fees. Global Crossroad suggests that you correspond with us if you have special needs for your internship.

Also it is very important for you to know and understand some things about Costa Rica.

1. Costa Rica is a developing country, which means its economy is not as high as it is in the United States or other developed nations.

2. Because of that, Costa Rican companies are not able to pay salaries to the foreign interns and professionals who wish to work or intern here.

Even though those two aspects may seem daunting, Global Crossroad's staff will do their best to find a job that would, at the very least, offer room and board to the intern. However, there may be some cases in which we can not and interns will have to pay a monthly fee.

Professionals and future professionals are welcomed by Costa Rican companies to work with them, and these companies will try to learn as well as teach. The goal is a positive exchange of knowledge and culture with their interns.

So, don't lose this opportunity to learn different ways of thinking and solving problems, implementing new strategies and plans, and working hard with and without the tools you may have considered necessary to do a good job.

A working experience in Costa Rica will give you the knowledge and tools you will need to face the reality of an environment less developed than the United States.

At the end of your Professional Practice, your employer will give you a letter in which they will explain all the plans, changes and results you placed in the company. Our partner in Costa Rica will present you with a Participants Certificate which will tell your future employers of your real life experience here in our country.

Highlights: Beautiful Costa Rica has something for everybody! Although smaller than West Virginia, this country offers endless adventurous opportunities, even after a few weeks of travel. Whatever your interests - eco-tourism, bird watching, adventure, rafting, golf, or just relaxing on an unspoiled tropical beach - you'll find something exciting to do in this tropical and secure paradise.

The Volunteer Costa Rica Program offers you amazing opportunities to experience one of the most exotic and undiscovered vacation destinations in the world, while volunteering in unique conservation and social projects. Global Crossroad invites you to consider this Peace Corps alternative, where you can help the children, teach indigenous peoples, and put your skills to work in grass-roots level development and conservation efforts. During your free time, explore towering and fiery volcanoes, pristine beaches, raging rivers, and virgin rain forests.
