Description:
Ghana, on the Gulf of Guinea in West Africa, is a country of rich natural resources with major exports that include cocoa, timber, gold and diamonds. There are currently plans being laid down by the Ghanaian government to transform Ghanas agricultural export industry, adding to its prosperous trade with mostly European countries. In addition to this, there is a rapidly developing tourist industry. There are opportunities in Ghana for volunteers who wish to study or gain work experience within the business, accounting or management sectors. For volunteers who are on a gap-year or majoring in business in college, or for those looking for experience in a particular sector of the business world, a voluntary Business Internship in Ghana offers access to work experience that will make you stand out from the crowd. All Business Internship volunteers live and work in the lively capital city of Accra. Business Internship Opportunities with Projects Abroad in Ghana If you are looking to gain experience in accounting in a real life context, we offer you this opportunity in Accra, Ghana. With 1.7 million inhabitants Accra is an exciting, bustling city, and it is here that a business volunteer will gain the best understanding of how a Ghanaian company operates. We work with a large international firm that welcomes volunteers who have some previous experience in the field of accounting. Students who are part way through a business, accounting or management degree, or graduates of these subjects are all welcomed. We currently work with just one firm. However, if you have an interest in a different area of business please let us know and provided that we are given enough notice, we will work hard to find a placement to suit your requirements. Please contact us for more information. Working in one of the most rapidly developing countries in West Africa, our voluntary business internships give you a unique insight into the fusion of Western business methods with the Ghanaian way of life. Throughout your placement your input will be greatly encouraged and appreciated, especially if you prove to be flexible and eager to learn. Volunteering on a Business Internship Placement in Ghana As a volunteer in Accra on our Business Internship Placement, you will provide effective and constructive help while you work on a variety of projects. During the placement, volunteers are expected to be punctual and professional and are required to work normal office hours. You will be involved with the day-to-day activities of the office whether they are contacting different clients, working with business support teams, carrying out research, attending meetings or proofreading. The variety of work you do will depend upon you and how confident you feel about the work at hand. You are also likely to be involved in sharing the large auditing workload, which will bring you into regular contact with many clients, from small start-up businesses in Accra to large public corporations. You can also work with the business support team, helping small businesses with practical business advice. The company has seventy staff in the office. You will be assigned a supervisor who will be able to advise and support you during your placement. Volunteers often eat lunch with their colleagues, and it is at these times when you can really get to know them and gain an insight into their culture. In turn your colleagues will be interested to learn about you and your own culture. Projects Abroad Ghana staff is always on hand to assist you with any problems or answer any questions you may have.
Highlights:
The Ghanaian people, in general, are the friendliest you will meet. They pride themselves as the friendliest in Africa, sometimes in the world! In order to appreciate the sincere friendliness of them please make every effort to instigate conversations with your host family and workmates. Only by doing this will you really learn and therefore appreciate the Ghanaian culture. For accommodation, you'll live with a host-family. All the families involved are extremely supportive of Projects Abroad and are eager to experience an inter-cultural exchange so they can learn more about the lives of volunteers. This project offers the opportunity to become fully immersed in the culture in a manner which even the most hardened of backpackers could never hope to do.

Projects Abroad's Mission Statement: As part of the global economy, Projects Abroad helps create local employment wherever we send volunteers. Employing local staff overseas and using their talents and knowledge is important to us. This local knowledge and support enables the organization to channel the skills of the volunteers from more affluent countries to regions around the world where they are needed. Volunteers also learn from their placements and the people they meet, and they gain experience in a chosen field. In the 21st century, we believe this mutual respect is what cultural exchange is all about.
