New York City Internship
United States
Term: Throughout the year
Description:
KEI's internship programs allow students to gain practical experience while earning academic credit towards an undergraduate or graduate degree. Placement can be arranged in a wide variety of professional areas and industries. The start and end dates for the New York City internships are flexible, depending on student needs and the availability of suitable positions. The most popular time of the year for placement is summer. KEI offers a summer program between May 26 and August 26. KEI can also arrange internships during the academic year. In order to receive academic credit for work done in conjunction with an internship, students must report to the internship/academic supervisor regularly; submit an analytical paper (8-12 pages) at the end of the internship; and keep and submit a daily journal about the experience. Forty five (45) hours of work are required for every 1-semester hour of credit; (40-43 of these hours should be at the placement company/organization, the other 2-5 hours should be spent in meetings with the supervising faculty advisor). Thus, in order to receive 3 credits for an internship, 135 hours are required. New York is the center of global finance, communications, law and business. The City is home to the NY Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, the United Nations, the NY Supreme Court, and countless multinational organizations, companies and law firms. New York is unusual among cities because of its extraordinarily diverse population, high residential density, hundreds of skyscrapers, thriving central business district, extensive public transportation system, numerous fine restaurants and more than 400 distinct neighborhoods. The City's concert houses, museums, galleries and theaters constitute an ensemble of cultural richness rivaled by few cities. Simply put, there is no other city like it. Note: Students should always check with their home institution first, concerning home school requirements for the awarding of credit for internships! Internships for credit require home school approval! Universities often have strict regulations about academic credit given for internships - by eliminating the option of credit, limiting the credit given, or increasing the number of requirements.

The program includes internship placement, monitoring, and supervision; academic credit; professional visits to business, organizations, NGOs, etc.; field trips and optional cultural activities; housing, pre-departure and on-site support; orientation; on-site coordinator; airport welcome and transfer to housing, and a mobile telephone. Students are housed at University dormitories or in shared apartments in the city.
