Capital Community Newspaper
New Zealand
Term: Throughout the year
Description:
Discover and explore, in the nation's capital city, the grass-roots issues that impact, influence and interest local communities. CCN produces five free community newspapers per week, with each newspaper firmly focused on its niche market. The total current combined circulation is in excess of 93,000, all distributed within the greater Wellington area. These community newspapers differ from the daily newspapers in that not all news is 'hard'. Instead, the community focus allows for softer news and useful information for the city's residents; all stories are localized and have a local anchor or source. CCN is a division of Wilson and Horton, publishers of the "New Zealand Herald" (the country's largest daily) and several other metropolitan dailies and community papers. The parent company is involved with other media throughout New Zealand and the rest of the world. The head office of Independent Publishing is in Dublin, Ireland. Therefore, with this internship, you can lay claim to involvement in a media conglomerate that stretches around the world. At Capital Community Newspapers, you will get the opportunity to experience journalism in a 'hands on' environment. This is not an internship where you will be delegated the task of making coffee and running errands! You will have the opportunity to be involved in news sourcing, interviewing, news writing, photography, layout, and design. This newspaper group provides a training ground for less experienced journalists and reporters. At any one time, there will also be other local interns working alongside you. This will enable you to become acquainted with Kiwi students who will have a passion for journalism and share similar interests as yourself.
