Description: Work-Study Participants spend approximately half their time studying Russian, and half their time teaching English (or French/Italian) as a foreign language. The option of translation work is also possible for applicants with a sufficiently high level of Russian.

Applicants who are native speakers of other major European languages (French, or Italian) may teach their own language rather than English.

Work-Study Programme A begins with 2 weeks of orientation and TEFL training. TEFL training is seminar based, led by experienced and qualified TEFL teachers, and includes the opportunity to practice teach and observe classes.

Following training, participants start teaching their own classes independently, as well as attending their regular Russian lessons. The ratio of work to study is determined before the start of the program(participants may choose to study for 9 to 18 academic hours/week, and teach from 12 to 18 academic hours/week, depending on demand from students and their success in the classroom). For the first 3 months of teaching, they have the status of 'teacher-intern', and they continue to receive academic support and training in the form of lesson observations, feedback, training seminars and group projects. On successful completion of the 3-month internship period, participants receive a Language Link TEFL certificate.

During the final part of Work-Study A, participants who have successfully completed the internship phase continue to teach, with the status of EFL teacher. Provided they fulfil their teaching assignments well, they receive pay rises at intervals throughout the programme.

Work-Study B participants begin teaching their own classes within a week of arrival, and throughout the program they may teach 12 - 18 academic hours/week, and attend 9 - 18 academic hours of Russian lessons/week. The ratio of work to study is chosen prior to the start of the program, but allocation of teaching is subject to demand from students, and a satisfactory standard of work. Pay rises are accorded at intervals throughout the program, provided standards of teaching are satisfactory.

Highlights: An excellent opportunity to acquire paid international work experience whilst learning Russian or improving existing Russian language skills. A flexible program, which includes a choice of accommodation and full visa support. Although the standard combination is 12 academic hours of study and up to 18 academic hours of teaching per week, participants may vary the number of hours they teach and study.

Participants receive top-quality Russian tuition in small groups (max. 6 students) with experienced teachers. The cost of lessons is discounted in comparison with prices paid by other students. Participants can cover 50-100% of their living costs with the money paid for teaching EFL.

Qualifications: Language Link offers two Work-Study programs, A and B, to cater for both qualified EFL teachers and applicants without any teaching qualifications or experience. Both programs are open to applicants with any level of Russian proficiency, from Beginners to Advanced. All applicants must be native speakers of English, French, or Italian (French and Italian speakers must also have a reasonable knowledge of English).

Work-Study A: This program is designed for applicants with limited or no previous teaching experience, and no recognized teaching qualification. Prior knowledge of Russian is not required. Participants who already have some knowledge of Russian have a small test on arrival in Russia, to place them in a group of the correct level.
