Dates: Year-round

Description: We find you the placement you want! You tell us what you are interested in doing, and we'll use our extensive local knowledge and contacts to built every aspect of your New Zealand internship. Our internships range from 4 weeks to 6 months or even longer in length, so it doesn't matter if you are looking for a summer internship or a gap year! We can find you an internship in almost any field you desire. In the past we have organised placements doing everything from teaching drama in a primary school to DJ'ing at a local radio station from restoring an old wooden sailing ship to co-ordinating tourist events.

We find you the accommodation you want: we offer a range of different accommodation choices according to your needs and budget. We can organise homestays, farmstays, or apartments/flats (shared or single), depending on what kind of experience you are seeking. New Zealand can provide with a great rural or city location according to your preferences. Accommodation costs are covered as part of your Kiwi-Internship programme.

We get you started: we organise your personal New Zealand airport collection and get you to your first placement and place of accommodation. We'll give you an information pack, a set of New Zealand maps, and give advice with any pressing first tasks like setting up a bank account or finding the right shop for any travel gear you're missing. We even offer a complimentary (free) bicycle to travel from accommodation to internship hosts, or just generally "get about". We'll also give you a Kiwi-Internship cell phone which you can keep for the duration of your placement. This service gives you a local NZ phone number from the day you arrive in New Zealand, and a way to connect with friends, family and also Kiwi Internship staff and Hosts.

We keep working for you during your placement: throughout your placement, we provide a liaison service between yourself and your host employer, and any others such as your home college or university as necessary. We can also arrange to appoint an academic or professional supervisor for interns who are intending to claim course credit for the internship and whose home institution stipulates such supervision (this may incur additional charges).

Highlights: Your Kiwi Internship will give you a great advantage with potential employers or admissions for further education. Increased confidence and greater sense of purpose are almost inevitable. Many of our students say that volunteer work and internships have changed their lives in numerous ways. Tangible benefits include monitored work experience for credit with home institutions and future employers, increased skills, knowledge, and new friends & networks.

If you were thinking about going abroad for your internship, New Zealand is an excellent place for your international work experience, with amazing scenery (straight out of the Lord of the Rings films!), a mild year-round climate, and overwhelmingly friendly locals. Read more about what New Zealand can offer you here. We give our students the chance to experience New Zealand from a local perspective, tailored to your preferences, whether you'd like to be living it up in the city or experiencing 'the real' New Zealand in a small town, farm or wildlife sanctuary.

We are New Zealanders, based in NZ with extensive local knowledge. Read about us, and our philosophy of social and environmental sustainability here. Our network of contacts for host families, internship programmes and personal placements has developed over many years. Many of our students have acknowledged that they simply didn't have the time or knowledge to create the kind of experiences we can create for you! In fact, we're so confident of our ability to help you that we will refund your programme development fee in full if we fail to find you suitable placements.

Qualifications: Our Internship programmes are open to all interested students, graduates, and professionals. You do not need any particular qualifications, although if you are applying for a particular type of internship over a long period of time (for example, up to 52 weeks) you may need to have studied relevant subjects and ideally have some previous experience in that field. Kiwi Internship placements are usually unpaid if you are specifically looking for a paid placement, please contact us to discuss the possibilities, as this falls outside of our normal internship programmes.

Anyone over the age of 18 years can apply. We have accepted students as young as 16 however in these cases we must have prior parental consent. We also accept applicants of any nationality, so long as you are able to obtain the correct visa for the activities you wish to do in New Zealand. We offer advice on the type of visa you will need and the best way of getting it. If English is not your native language, you should have a basic grasp of spoken English and be keen and willing to acquire new words, phrases and expressions to get the most from your placement.
