  • Sydney

Term: Fall, Spring
Dates: inquire for exact dates

Description: The Sydney Internship Program offers a semester of study and work in beautiful, cosmopolitan Sydney, Australia, one of the hubs of the Pacific Rim. This program combines a professional internship with course work on Australia's dynamic history, contemporary culture, and place in the modern world, including its literature, politics, economy, art, and media. Courses are taught at the Boston University Sydney Center by faculty drawn from Sydney-area universities. Upon successful completion of a semester, students earn 16 Boston University credits.

Highlights: The First Six Weeks (Core Phase)
Students take two core courses: Australian Culture and Society, and a course on Australian art and architecture, film, and video production, cinema, or social policy. Each student also meets with the program's internship advisors to refine an area of placement according to ability, professional goals, experience, and work style. The Australian Culture and Society course requires all students to conduct ethnographic research on a selected aspect of Australian society.

The Final Eight Weeks (Internship Phase)
Students participate in Sydney's local work life through internships with Australian and multinational businesses and organizations. Students work full-time, four days a week, while also enrolling in an elective course in one of the following subjects, all of which focus on Australia: politics, literature, mass media, or economics. During the final week of this eight-week period, students meet in an internship discussion seminar and spend time completing final projects and presenting them to their instructors and classmates.
